Ashbe are the first construction company in Jersey to be awarded the Living Wage Accreditation

Ashbe Construction has distinguished itself as the pioneering construction firm on the island to attain the Jersey Living Wage Accreditation, a notable milestone facilitated by the local charity Caritas Jersey. Caritas Jersey, which operates under the aegis of the Living Wage Foundation in the UK, spearheads the initiative to promote the concept of a 'Living Wage' within Jersey. This initiative is driven by the noble goal of mitigating poverty across the island, advocating for compensation that reflects the real cost of living, inclusive of taxes and the benefits accessible to low-income workers.

The essence of the Living Wage is to ensure that workers, when their earnings are supplemented by in-work benefits, receive a wage that not only meets basic survival needs but also allows for a dignified life within the Jersey community. Ben Cairney, the Managing Director of Ashbe, expressed profound pride in the company's achievement, emphasizing the importance of fair compensation for enabling employees to support their families, particularly in times of economic volatility.

Patrick Lynch, the CEO of Caritas, lauded Ashbe's commitment to the Living Wage, acknowledging the extensive effort and determination required to ensure compliance among all subcontractors. He highlighted the critical nature of the Living Wage amidst the escalating cost of living crisis, urging other employers to emulate Ashbe's example by joining the Jersey Living Wage Campaign.
