Ashbe Construction Limited has become the first business in the Channel Islands to be accredited as a Bronze level Carbon Literate Organisation with the Carbon Literacy Project.
The Carbon Literacy Project is an internationally recognised Climate Change education programme, which was awarded by the UN as one the top 100 worldwide transformative action programmes. The learning covers climate change, carbon footprints, how you can practically contribute to reducing emissions, and why it’s relevant to you and your business.
Ashbe’s entire management team attended the required day’s worth of Carbon Literacy training, delivered by local sustainability consultancy firm Acacia Limited, who have devised a specific course directly relevant to the Jersey Construction Industry. Participants were then required to identify individual and group actions directly relevant to the business, and these were externally assessed by the Carbon Literacy Project. As a result all participants were individually certified as Carbon Literate. Ashbe then took their commitment one step further with their application to become accredited as a Carbon Literate Organisation.
Ben Cairney, Managing Director of Ashbe Construction Limited said “We are proud to be the first business in the Channel Islands accredited as a Carbon Literate Organisation. We know our industry is a huge contributor to global emissions, and this is the first step towards our goal of being the Environmental Contractor of Choice in Jersey. The training provided by Acacia Ltd was fantastic and we all learnt a huge amount of useful industry specific information that we will use to facilitate our carbon reduction goals moving forwards’
Ashbe’s certification as Carbon Literate forms part of a wider commitment to developing as a sustainable business, including social, environmental and economic growth for all.
